Emergency Assistance Program

Many students face sudden financial crises that threaten their ability to continue their studies. A car breakdown, medical emergency, or unexpected rent increase can create an impossible choice between covering basic needs and staying in school. Our Emergency Assistance grants provide timely financial support to ensure that students don’t have to put their education on hold due to temporary setbacks.

Program Benefits

Thanks to generous donors like you, we provide:

  • Immediate financial relief for urgent, unforeseen expenses
  • Assistance with securing other basic needs and educational resources available from MPC and other community partners - including food, housing, textbooks, and medical care
  • Support developing a long-term plan to prevent students from dropping out due to financial challenges

Program Impact

Recent personal stories serve as the best endorsement of the program’s impact. Here are just a few examples of the students who have been able to continue their education thanks to the Emergency Assistance program.

“I needed help with my dental bill and renewing my prescription lenses. My glasses were more than a year old and my vision had become worse. Without WSW/EA support, this would have prevented me from completing my courses as I have night classes and it would be difficult to drive with blurred vision.” A.J.

“My unstable housing situation required me to vacate, and I had to put my personal belongings in a storage unit. My main expenses were food, gas/repairs for my vehicle, storage, and laundry. My immediate need served was finding local sleeping arrangements so I could finish my classes at MPC and stay on track to transfer to San Francisco State.” A.B.
